WHAT IS ECZEMA?

Atopic Dermatitis, also known as eczema, is an autoimmune disease affecting 10% of adults in America and 25% of children worldwide. It typically first shows up before age five and persists through adolescents and adulthood. 

According to Mayoclinic.org, “Healthy skin helps retain moisture and protects you from bacteria and irritants. Eczema is related to a gene variation that affects the skin's ability to provide this protection and allows your skin to be affected by environmental factors, irritants, and allergens.” It manifests as raised, dry, itchy bumps that leak fluid and crust over when scratched.
